The Jafet Library has an opening for the position of Digital Librarian, above grade 12. Functions
Provides expertise and leadership in support of all digital initiatives at the Libraries, with special focus on the Libraries’ Special Collections. In charge of technical planning, implementation, management and workflow of digitization projects in compliance with internationally recognized standards and best practices. Responsible for all matters of digital objects creation, description, retrieval, storage and preservation including metadata creation and use. Administers and maintains the Library content management system to facilitate storage, retrieval and preservation of digital objects. Promotes the Libraries’ digital projects and initiatives, and actively seeks grants to fund digitization projects.
Requirements
- ALA accredited master’s degree in Library and Information Science and/or computer/software engineering background
- Three years of full-time professional experience in an academic library or archival environment.
- Experience in electronic content management and digitization workflow: Knowledge of standards and best practices for digital library project management, techniques, and practices.
- Solid knowledge of standards for metadata and digital preservation, and experience managing large sets of digital files.
- Knowledge of current technology trends: metadata schemes, digital preservation strategies and repositories. General knowledge of markup and database languages.
- Experience with computer programming and scripting languages (JavaScript, MySQL, and PHP) is desirable.
- Excellent project management skills and ability to coordinate and/or lead multiple projects simultaneously.
