Description
- Executes the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements
- Works with Development Engineering teams to help assure that the solutions they develop meet goals for availability, performance, scale and operability
- Executes day to day maintenance tasks including problem determination and resolution, as well as root-cause analysis. Responsible for responding to live site issues and for executing software, platform, and configuration changes
- Provides and maintains documentation of systems architecture, troubleshooting and support guidelines, system metrics, project information and plans, and training information for both Systems Engineering and Service Operations Center staff
- Ensures the use of performance data and historical metrics to effectively plan for growth needs, plan upgrades, migrations, and optimizations, new implementations, identify and resolve efficiency issues, and improve functionality
- Provides support for integration testing, system testing, regression testing and load testing prior to the final release of new and upgraded products and services
- Participates in the development of best practices including capacity planning, monitoring, configuration, security, historical metrics, recovery strategies, and migration strategies. Responsible for validation of and adherence to these defined standards
- Participates in the continual refinement of processes and policies to ensure the highest possible performance and availability of our storage systems
- Interacts with product management and customers to understand the product and business CTQs
- Analyzes customer needs and product management inputs to develop detailed system and subsystem requirements
- Provides inputs and ideas to support long term product and technology planning
- Provides cross functional technical leadership to project personnel to insure on time delivery of quality products
- Provides mentoring other system engineers to expand their system engineering skill set and product knowledge
- Proactively identifies potential project and technical issues and takes actions to mitigate these issues
- Leads teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues
- Participate as a presenter or reviewer in customer, technical, and program reviews
- Develops relationships with customers and product management
- Develops practical and innovative ways to identify and meet goals
- Responsible for work with minimal definition of scope and has the understanding and experience to execute critical business objectives
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or equivalent experience in technical operations or software engineering
- 6 or more years of experience designing and/or deploying Internet-based products or services
- Experience working in a high capacity, mission-critical web serving environment with significant Internet components
- Detailed knowledge of hardware technologies and systems support – administration, configuration, troubleshooting, performance tuning, security, and general maintenance of Intel platforms
- Detailed knowledge of core Internet protocols (DNS, DHCP, HTTP, HTTP/S, SSH) required
- Experience with IP communication, packet structure, load balancing equipment, and troubleshooting required
- 4-7+ years Windows systems & domain administration with Windows 2008 or later.
- Experience administering an Active Directory environment, with extensive knowledge of group policy.
- Strong understanding of Internet/IP related technologies including, but not limited to, DNS, SMTP, HTTP/S, IP subnetting.
- Experience with Fiberchannel/iSCSI/SAS storage arrays. Understanding of concepts such as RAID.
- Have a working knowledge of networking technologies such as TCP/UDP port requirements, 802.1Q network tagging and routing.
- Ability to prioritize and be productive in high-pressure situations, providing timely status updates to customers, the OSC, and/or project management.
- Strong trouble-shooting ability. Ability to identify and resolve problems in “down" situations.
- 4 + years VMware Enterprise administration, in a fully redundant environment utilizing SAN storage backend.
- Experience with scripting in a Windows environment (e.g. PowerShell and VBScript).
- Experience with administering Exchange 2010/2007 environments.
- SAN administration experience.
- Network administration experience (layer-2 switching and firewalling).
- Backup and backup related technology experience
- Experience with database technologies such as MS SQL Clustering, MySQL or Oracle
- MS windows server standard and enterprise, 2008
- MS Certifications a plus (some may be required)
