Data Center Design and Engineering Consultant

The Data Center Design and Engineering Consultant will be responsible for the design, assessment, construction management and supervision of the Data Center site infrastructure systems; architectural/structural, electrical, mechanical, data/telecommunication, fire protection, security, and building management systems (BMS). The position requires firm knowledge of best practices and engineering principles for the design, construction and operation of telecom facilities, computer rooms and data centers. It consists of a number of subsections that address the fundamental requirements of a successful design such as electrical power supply, air conditioning, configuration of rack layout and data cabling. This will include deep understanding and continuous update of best practices and international standards namely TIA 942 and Uptime Institute Tier Classification.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Meet with clients to determine availability requirements; Tier objective, budgets, and define the scope of a project; planned timescales and the resources needed (Designers/Engineers/Contractors/Vendors).
- Manage the overall design process and its activities and coordinate with designers and engineering experts to produce optimum design and meet target availability and performance objectives within the approved budget and program specifications.
- Accountable for programming, designing, coordinating and supervising implementation and construction work in accordance with established international standards.
- Interface with user communities, technology vendors, and standard bodies relating to all facilities problems dealing with critical infrastructure issues.
- Perform assessment and site survey of existing data center facilities and underlying electrical and mechanical infrastructures to determine deficiencies and gaps as opposed to standards and best practices.
- Calculate total power requirement of IT and cooling loads and determine capacity and specifications for electrical power from utility, generators, transformers, ATS, UPS, and distribution to the IT environment.
- Advise on the most appropriate type of cooling solutions and size capacity and determine specifications of A/C equipment of CRAC/CRAH and HVAC systems.
- Verify design of site layout for the Mechanical and Electrical plant as well as proper routing of cabling and piping distribution.
- Establish floor plan including Rack layout, cable trays layout, location of CCTV and type of Access Control to the Data Hall.
- Provide insights on fire detection and suppression solutions that relate to data center spaces and M&E support facilities.
- Clarify a client's systems specifications, understanding their work performances and the nature of their features and functional specifications.
- Control and adhere to required procedures for access to customer’s data center facilities. This will include ensuring that any work being conducted is authorized, and following the sign-in processes mandated by our client.
- Perform site inspection and site survey and generate documents and punch lists specifying areas of shortcomings and recommendations for enhancements.
- Oversee power distribution cable layout and labeling, patch panels conjunction, and power strip plugging in line with approved design documents
- Coordinate with Design and Installation teams and respond to inquiries and support in design development
- Supervise installation of new equipment, such as Generators, ATS, UPS, Condensers, CRACs/CRAHs, pipes and pumps, CCTVs, FM200. Supervise testing and commissioning activities to make sure systems are well integrated and working properly as design intended.
- Create Microsoft Visio sketches and high level designs for Electrical Single Line Diagram (SLD), Mechanical Flow Diagram (MFD), and Floor Plans to enable designers understand performance and configuration requirements.
- Develop agreed solutions and implement the new systems; help clients with change-management activities (migration); and purchase of systems where appropriate.
